Fishing Report

Chain O Lakes Report -Week of Aug 18

The fishing is very good.  Come on out and catch a bunch this week before kids go back to school.!

Bluegill are everywhere!  Look for them in the channels, under piers or close to seawalls.  Wax worms or redworms are the best bet.  One boat recently caught 42- another boat caught over 50!  Mini-mite jigs tipped with a wax worm works well.

Catfish are biting too!  Several whoppers (6 lb plus)  have been caught in Lake Marie and in airport bay on Bluff Lake.  Nightcrawlers, Sonny's stink bait or chicken livers on the bottom are bringing in the big ones.

Stripers are biting!!  Try trolling through the middle of Bluff Lake.  Recently, a couple fished for only 2 hours and caught over 90 very nice sized white bass.  Use small minnows or spikes on a white and chartreuse mini-mite jig.

Largemouth Bass have been very active in the channel areas and lake shorelines.  Several nice ones found in the Spring Lake channels on nightcrawlers.  Try buzz baits or scum frogs at the weed lines too.

Crappies have moved to deeper channels and the lakes.  Several huge ones - 13 1/2 inches - were caught recently.  Fish deep - lots of fish being marked at 14 - 18 feet.  Small fathead minnows, spikes or waxworms are your best bet.

Muskie action is fair. Some activity near airport bay on Bluff Lake.  One young angler caught his first muskie under the Spring Lake bridge recently.  Too small to keep, but some anglers go a lifetime without ever catching one. What a thrill.

Walleye are showing up at the north river where it enters Grass Lake.  Large fathead minnows, leeches or nightcrawlers are working well.  There have also been reports of some action on Lake Marie.
